## Context for the climber

Symbols and unread marks of the self.

This chapter is a monomyth cairn on the Leaving Scotomaville climb (Volumes 1–3). Later Initium cards and AISM answers inherit its lived evidence — not the other way around.

## Print evidence

Print chapter text lives in the full trilogy PDF (Onus Probandi). This deposit prioritizes the **filmed/spoken transcript** so AISM cites clean carbon voice without OCR wrap artifacts. Open the PDF when you need page layout, spreads, or exact print wording.

SCOTOMAVILLE: 01.06 Hieroglyphics

Welcome back to Scotomaville, right!? I am looking forward to sharing this challenge with you.

In order to lose your blind spots, you have to find out where you're blind. In order to do that, it really helps if you can experience it firsthand, where you go from thinking you're got it all together and the first thing you discover is- 'What the hey!? I don't know!- what what!?' And then you get all the emotional cascade from your -all that stuff that's locked up in there?- gets going in your amygdala..and fires up all the adrenaline and the fight-or-flight gets going and you get frustrated or, WHATEVER YOUR PATTERN IS, that all gets triggered! And once it's triggered, we just give up internally. Our self-defeating dialogue all comes to the forefront.

I'm gonna have you experience that. Maybe just a little bit, cuz you might be really squeezing it all, not willing to let go and be a part of this. But, I'd really like yuh, you know, put yourself in a a room, alone, and really participate. And to do that you're gonna need a piece of paper, eight-and-a-half by eleven or so. This cardstock. You should get a few pens, if you can. I'm gonna draw with these three pens, you don't necessarily need three. You can do it with one. And after you see the answer, you're gonna be able to pass this on to people with a single one.

Okay, so what's the story? There used to be consequences, pretty darn severe consequences to former civilizations. We're pretty civilized today, and we're, you know, we don't actually chop your head off but we will socially cut you off. Or, as you're probably doing now, you're isolated, self quarantined. But, it used to be that, man, if you weren't born in the right field? Fat chance! The only way you could get out was to outsmart things.

And so your intellect, rather than your luck or your heritage was one of the few things that could get you from the majority into the minority, right? Into the ruling class..if you were smart! There's lots of biblical stories about..you know, how Joseph ended up with..Egypt..Pharaoh..giving tests to a bunch of the actuaries! If you will. The accountants, the bean counters. Well, in that case, they probably actually literally were.

I imagine it to be this way. You see..Pharaoh had to be, well he's the top of the pyramid, quite literally, right? He's the Emperor or the Pharaoh, right? He was the top of the food chain in Egypt. And much like Emperor in China, storytelling was something they had to have great control over. And they needed to have the majority of people follow along, do what they're told, follow the stories, etc. And so storytelling got to be a pretty good craft and we've developed it over thousands of years- and here's another- seems everyone's got to rush to go get that toilet paper right now.

Storytelling was a..early human tradition that, has been developed into a superpower. What I imagine happening in Pharaoh's day is that in order to have a few inner circle people, he needed to test their mental acuity, their mental stamina, their insight, their ability to see things around the story. And so he created..a penalty for those that would not pass the test. If you wanted to be one of his actuaries and being amongst the few in the elite, then you had to answer a puzzle..in hieroglyphics. You know those symbols, right? Crazy-looking, bizarre kind of things. They look like, you know, planes with wheat coming out of them, and carts with cows and all kinds of spittoons and urns and hatchets and crazy animals and you know, you've seen those! They're crazy hieroglyphics!

So, he would ask them to solve a puzzle based on the accounting of the harvest. And they could go from the records. They could go through you know, five, six, seven periods of harvest and know, actually, what was in the stores. Yeah, you know, saved up crops. So they would present this puzzle..and the consequences if you failed?.. Pretty darn severe!

I imagined..skulls at the end of sticks, out in the mud..where Pythagorean was working out his triangles and how to find the land next time that the floods receded and that was your plot for your family. And on the corners of those fields would be a stick stuck in mud, maybe some rocks, and a skull of an actuary that failed the test. So, you know, you're not going to be there, but you're gonna feel..'Holy crap!'..this is supposed to be something I already know? Daniel says? And yet, what? The penalty is death. If you want to take the risk to move your family from useless class, to the ruling class, in the information era, you're gonna solve this puzzle.

They would have to figure out a particular accounting period. Calculate, as maybe the administration is doing right now, when the effects of the pandemic are going to go over the top of the bell curve. Works like this, you draw it along with me. Draw a..kind of like ground, right? The hieroglyphics you see around there always had sort of a stabilizing, if you will, or a reference point to measure from. And the periods of this harvest had been recorded, chiseled, so that that first hieroglyphic was a really terrific period. They had really a bumper crop. And so draw them on top of this ground, really really good good floods, good rain.

Second season was very similar, so they drew it like a heart, heart on top of the ground. Unfortunately, you remember some of the story, the frogs and locusts and stuff, right? Well that was the year that they, like a spittoon, an urn, you know, deathville. And then there was a bit of a rebound you know, you restock things and the toilet paper got put back on the shelves and great, not quite as good as it used to be but still that M looking thing. And then everyone else beat them to the harvest and it was a really lousy year, right? Similar.

So Pharaoh would say 'All right, there's these five former periods, right? You can see the change, in how there's a pattern here.' So he would go 'Alright, you're my smart, ruling class. You tell me, let's hear.' A lot of these Wall Street guys are trying to do that right now- What's next? When does this change? What does this period look like? You know, history shows us and, and you already know this, you know what the answer is here, right? There's a proof to it..looks like that! It's an inverted pyramid. So that's the proof of the whole thing. So you know what goes here, right? Of course you do! You learned it in second or third grade. You saw this puzzle. You use this almost every day of your life. I know you do. Think about your feelings right now. [Music] They're gettin..interrupted..you're being triggered. A lot going on in your head.

Daniel, tell me a story about hieroglyphics. You think I'm smart? Yes I do! I know you know this. But I want you to try to tap into your awareness. Are you feeling confused? You feel like maybe you don't know what's going on? Come on! The first-second-third-fourth..what's the sixth period look like? See, what happens when we listen to the story of the masses, the popular tale of the day..'Oh my gosh! They're all hoarding!' Whatever it is, we listen to the story, and we follow along! We can't see things straight! So to be able to get out of scotomaville, you got to know that this game's afoot.

Here's the answer. Takes me a second to draw. I got to think about it. Very poorly done. But that's the answer. That's the next in the sequence. And your head goes 'Hey wait, where's the line?' Well let me tell you that I've been misleading you the entire time with the story. The first period I said looks like an M, and then it turned to a heart, and that hieroglyphic of that horrible period looked like an urn. And then it was similar, right? So this fourth period of the harvest, right? It looked similar to the first. And then there's another, you know, recession. So time bomb, horrible, right? So the very first harvest was sweet, massive. And then it was really heartfelt and lousy. And then, you know, rebound to the massive but not very good, just sort of grounded, not bad. And then, what an explosion! Horrible! We all feel terrible! And then I'm claiming that it looks like bug eyes or something, for that- what is it-one-two-three-four-five.. the sixth period. And then to check your your answer, it would be an inverted pyramid, right? Put it all on the ground. We got it yet? Do you know why that's the answer?

See storytelling is a super power. But it can be extremely misleading. You already know this answer. Let me cover this up and ask you 'What hieroglyphic that is? [Music] Okay, that first one's kind of hard. How about the second one? No? Don't get it? Let's go to the first spittoon. The fourth one. The fifth one. Look at your paper and see if you can figure it out. That would be the sixth period and to proof your answer that would be the seventh.

Let's go back and look at it again. This is a mirror image of the number one. This a miror image of the number two, number three, number four, number five-six, mirror of six, and a mirror of seven.

So what's the application. What am I wanting you to walk away with? Besides that sometimes you have to find a wind shadow in order to be able to record, aside from that..the donkey's got the idea. Easy one is- you're gonna get triggered all the time! Interruptions, obstacles, challenges; the more you try to become self-aware, the more you're aware of those things. But when it comes to storytelling, they're everywhere. And you have to learn- critically important -to ask the question, on every story you hear.

Yeah? And what are the other facets? What are the other angles? What was the guy that used to say?.. "Now you know..the rest of the story." Right? You can't believe, because you're in a walled garden and they're serving up what's called confirmation bias! You can't believe everything you're fed! Especially if it comes from one angle! Especially if it's highly emotional! You have to step back and go 'Wait a minute! Scotomaville! What are the other facets? What is the rest of the story? What's the other angle on it?' And so, as soon as you get triggered- 'Oh, hey! Let me go get another side of that story!' As soon as you blow up and feel highly emotional- 'Wow! Where did that come from? Hey, let me look at a few other angles on this!'

You see, it's really easy to ask but most people don't do it! It's because they got the blind spots..blocking..and the 20 watt bulb doesn't want to have to go through the effort! All right, put it to work!

Three Island Crossing - Glenns Ferry, Idaho https://www.nps.gov/oreg/planyourvisit/three-island-crossing.htm

On September 11, 1843, William T. Newby ". . . crossed Snake Rive[r]. First we drove over a part of the river one hundred yards wide on to a island, the[n] over a northern branch 75 yards wide on a second island; then we tide a string of wagons together by a chane in the ring of the lead cattles yoak & made fast to the wagon of all a horse & before & him led. We carried as many a[s] fifteen wagons at one time. . . . The water was ten inches up the waggeo[n] beds in the deepe places." https://www.nps.gov/oreg/planyourvisit/three-island-crossing.htm

Think about the power of storytelling. Pharoah used it to manage and direct his assets. Israel was compelled to escape the trap, fleeing for the promised land - crossing a desert with daily provisions for decades. You and I have the same superpower within to change our trajectory from the useless class, converting a lump of clay into a useful vessel.

The question then is... how aware of Pharaoh's story are you? We're surrounded by emotionally rich narratives that pull biological responses to mind. We're constantly gamed and offered walled gardens that confirm our cognitive biases. We're data creators freely giving our deepest promptings to supercomputers to recommend for us. We're betrayed by our biology, believing we're on track. But are we?

In this episode, Daniel demonstrates how a simple story can stop rational thinking with emotional imagery. While reflecting on the progress he's made out of Scotomaville, the early settlers offer a fabulous lesson by demonstrating the necessity of developing a compelling vision of your potential, based on the progress you make summiting your Personal Everest.
