## Context for the climber

Obstacle as way — plans interrupted without quitting strategy.

This chapter is a monomyth cairn on the Leaving Scotomaville climb (Volumes 1–3). Later Initium cards and AISM answers inherit its lived evidence — not the other way around.

## Print evidence

Print chapter text lives in the full trilogy PDF (Onus Probandi). This deposit prioritizes the **filmed/spoken transcript** so AISM cites clean carbon voice without OCR wrap artifacts. Open the PDF when you need page layout, spreads, or exact print wording.

Welcome back to Scotomaville. It's been six months to check the timestamps on my last upload to youtube. If you're a subscriber I really want to edify you. Thanks for coming back. We have six new episodes getting lined up that are real killers. You see: Onas Probandi (you remember) the burden of proof is on the claimant

SCENE CHANGES wait wait wait wait wait wait

It almost goes without saying that in this episode we're going to talk about some stuff that you are very well familiar with - SETBACKS - having life happen between your plans, like COVID. I'm not sure about you but the last six months have been 'wait wait wait wait' yes, very 'rich' for us, as in a bunch of very strong obstacles. As Marcus Aurelius recommends the obstacle (your thinking) is the way.

Pascal the french mathematician and theologian recommends that you find someone who's been where you want to go. That's what you've done. If you're hoping of a lifestyle of Airstreaming with some variety - some expedition (a journey with a purpose) then... "learn of those who have been bound like you and who now stake all their possessions. These are people who know the way which you would follow, and who are cured of an ill of which you would be cured. Follow the way by which they began."

WHY - not how

This channel is more about the 'why' than the 'how'. Nate and marissa from less junk more journey are great at the how. The same with shaun and kristy michaels from long long honeymoon. Those are fabulous channels to learn the details.

I want to dive in below that. You see: why why do you want to have a life of adventure? Why do you want to expose your independence and not be dependent? Because you're willing to take personal responsibility for your own awareness.

One of the things we have is a 'key' board. Notice that there's three key hooks and this one's gone. There's a blue one supposed to be here. Why is that not there?

Here's what daniel tends to do. He's done this once before. He filled up the tank, put the hose away, and left the stupid door open on the trip to walmart.

Yeah the key is supposed to go up on the 'key' board.

You have to continually walk around your trailer and find all the different items to lock down, to secure, before you take off on the road, but you have to think about your mental state and what's going on in here (motioning to head) before you dodge out into crazy traffic or windy roads and weather conditions.

SCENE CHANGES

25 miles an hour

As it turns out, almost all of the Airstreaming life can be practiced at home so that you have experience before you even acquire the Airstream that you want. As you can tell, we have the evidence now. We are finally in a 30-foot globetrotter of our own. That's quite the story to come. We're no longer in a 19-foot bambi. We've got the airstream we've really worked toward for five years.

Let's talk about setbacks in this episode.

Setbacks are things you're really familiar with, but I've got some insights that you wouldn't have any clue about.

SCENE CHANGES

Setbacks turn out to be an excellent time to get organized and to develop habits and patterns and muscles and systems and organization. There's all kinds of creative ways that you can use your time for while you're 'wait - wait - wait' while you're experiencing the weight of wait - weight.

This is my onus probondi

It's pretty awesome. It's the day after Thanksgiving and all through the house piles of trash need to be taken out. But, they don't pick them up. I get to take them out.

I really miss my walks to the dumpster.

Yeah that was other people's trash I picked up. You can get to be generous with your gifts once you get past your own liabilities.

In hindsight, six months of 'wait wait wait wait' - waiting for setbacks were not that much of a loss, because I was able to focus on doing -doing mundane things like taking the trash out or doing maintenance and trying to stay in shape. Doing things like learning who I am because awareness is a really valuable asset.

I really do not miss all the construction noise that excessively interfered or interrupted or pressured me during the 6 month waiting in arizona. I don't miss it at all.

SCENE CHANGE

you may want to take a really close look at the expiration date on my truck's temporary license plate - the 7th of april 2020. Today is about the 10th or 11th of may 2021. This is over a year expired

SCENE CHANGE

I've been thinking a lot. I have a point to make - but before I make that point I gotta trim my nose hair. Because I'm aware of my hair.

One of the benefits of buying an airstream is they have these concave - convex mirrors. You can look right up your nasal passages. I don't know if you can see it but you can hear it you don't need to see it and this stuff grows up here faster than this stuff up here now so that's one of those things you have to find out when you're aging so let me finish and i'll come back [music]

Now that I have dealt with the hair distractions, and the blood drops, and the blowing wind, I want to talk to you about leaving Scotomaville and why a personal everest is so critical.

MATURE - DONT JUST AGE

Consider the distinction between aged and mature, between mature and old. To age is to get old. To mature is to ripen. The reason why you want to be on a personal everest, or an expedition - a journey with a purpose - the reason why, as a mate, you want your partner to ripen and not to just get old is so that the quality of your life becomes richer. That distinction is a subtlety about getting out of Scotomaville.

Let me say it again. You don't want to grow old. You want to ripen. You want to mature. Not just age.

Setting off on an expedition - no matter what your chronological age - is an excellent time to start your maturation or your ripening by becoming more of who you are.

I'm 66 now. I think I have a pretty good idea who I am. I'm pretty confident to share that journey with you - in all of its glory or horror.

The Airstream is just a stage. It's the set. It's also the search keyword 'bait'.

I am very grateful to have it. At the bottom of Maslow'S Hierarchy is physical security. The 'why' to our full-time Airstreaming is to have a secure place to sleep, a fabulous place to visit, and more experiences of who I am to share with angelina. Life doesn't get much better than that.

SCENE CHANGE

Daniel: This explanation wouldn't be complete without her point of view.

It was 2005 when I left on my first trans-America cycling, and in 2006 and 2007 and you were very supportive.

Angelina: I needed him to go grow up. That is what I needed for him to do.

Daniel: I was gonna say you could tell them the truth!

Angelina: I was recovering from the traumatic brain injury and I needed to figure out with space and flexibility on how to heal from that tbi. It was a challenge in our relationship and he needed to go

Daniel: I was extremely frustrated everything that we had built - tv show, radio show, everything was happening - all the awards, the street smart version of the apprentice - everything was happening for us. Then, boom, in one day all of it was over. I didn't know how to deal with that much of a setback.

That's what this episode is about. It turned out that that setback, which was huge for us, and over a decade long in the recovery, that became the foundation of the 'personal everest'.

Angelina: yeah go ahead. Go pedal across america. Go grow yourself up. Go grow up.

Daniel: yeah, I went to discover what I had, and what I didn't have - like awareness and refined listening skills.

Angelina: I've always been from the mindset of 'you don't complain', you figure out a solution and a way around it. We're both wired differently. I knew you needed an adventure because that's what you were hungry for, and I needed to heal, and I needed the absence of drama so I could listen to how I needed to heal. You needed to go away for me to hear intuitively how I needed to take care of myself, and you needed to go for yourself - to discover what was to be revealed.

I'm very proud of you for doing that. Thank you.

Daniel: setbacks are opportunities to get to know yourself better. Don't look at a setback... Well, try to shift your thinking from setbacks being postponements and delays into an express lane of self-awareness. You just have to figure out where in the event or challenge that you have liberty. If you discuss it, and have the 'why' firmly in your mind then you'll have the support (of your partner)

Angelina knew I was going, not just to go chicky-poo around by pedalling across america, but that I was going to go sleep in the freaking snow.

Angelina: he traveled without a cell phone 4300 miles

Daniel: that was a lot of... I don't want to say suffering, but it was endurance and a rite of passage. Andropause was just beginning for me.

Once again, look to setbacks to accelerate your maturation, and not just endure them for the age.

Angelina: get excited about who you can become in the process. Look into who you might to become through this setback or challenge or unexpected journey - as I need to now navigate through my son Chris's death. Who am I going to become through it?

Daniel: spoiler alert. They don't know yet.

SCENE CHANGE

Jim Rohn used to say: "the book you don't read won't do you any good." "It's a mystery" he said, a "grand mystery why people don't take the action necessary". They think: 'yeah I should', but then they don't tak action.

One of the distinctions I want you to make is the difference between a dependent and an independent person. An independent person takes responsibility for their welfare, for their wellness, and not just by thinking 'yeah I should do that'. Taking action is the distinction.

What we're saying is that the action you don't take won't help. It's the actions that you do take that make a difference - incrementally. Little by little you get up your Personal Everest by making small changes and sticking with it.

Angelina: yeah agreed
