## Context for the climber

Satisfaction without arrival fantasy.

This chapter is a monomyth cairn on the Leaving Scotomaville climb (Volumes 1–3). Later Initium cards and AISM answers inherit its lived evidence — not the other way around.

## Print evidence

Print chapter text lives in the full trilogy PDF (Onus Probandi). This deposit prioritizes the **filmed/spoken transcript** so AISM cites clean carbon voice without OCR wrap artifacts. Open the PDF when you need page layout, spreads, or exact print wording.

You think it's windy?

Now is when I need to do an opening scene for this episode!

Just five bars of music and you know the word [music] 'satisfaction'.

Sometimes you try your hardest and everything fights you for it - like making progress going up your personal everest.

I'm going to welcome you to this episode of Scotomaville on satisfaction - being content and not being stuck on that hedonic treadmill.

Hedonic treadmill? What huh? You know. That's where no matter how much you acquire, no matter how much success and wealth and fame, or all that - "you can't get no" satisfaction.

The wikI explanation of satisfaction can leave you bewildered. During my personal everest of my expedition of awareness the past 5 years, I've found three major factors that lead toward a feeling of satisfaction - of contentment. One, is just being confident. Two, the celebration of what you're experiencing and then third, self-care. Those three things really make a big difference for me. I hope they do with you.

So welcome back to another episode of Scotomaville

SCENE CHANGES

There's a simple saying that; "the true test of genius is whether you can explain complex things in simple terms". I think if you review some of the prior episodes you're gonna discover that I am far from a genius! I have learned to fail with grace, and to not give up. Even my worst efforts are better than not making effort or not taking action. To give you an example I could not think of the word confidence.

Here's my evidence:

Considering events going on around the globe it may seem really insignificant to be grateful, content and satisfied on just solving a small problem - like your electric refrigerator sucking your batteries dry.

You are looking at ziploc bags full of water, completely frozen solid. Guess what is not going to defrost on this trip!

When you've solved a problem that small action really adds contentment. You're both relieved and... Um... I need to go to my emotional vocabulary list. There's a word in there that I cannot bring to mind. I hope you can because it... It's not coming to my mind. [Pause]

I have a sense of what it is, but cannot push it to my mouth.

(Turning to Angelina) Miss emotional positivity... what is the word that I am feeling for having solved that icebox problem.

Angelina: "Confidence! Satisfaction!"

It's funny that sometimes I have to say things three or four times to distill and make my point. I'm hoping that you get that I want for you: to start thinking... "If Daniel and Angelina could do it, then maybe I can do it."

I'm trying to say; you can achieve your goals. You just have to not quit.

SCENE CHANGES

After three seasons of failing to conquer my wind foiling jibes, I was able to order a custom wind foiling board. It took me months and months to pay for it. As soon as I started riding it an old mast universal tendon failed and I smashed the nose of the board. That was heartbreaking. But I had the confidence to just jump in and sand it out, and go find the right color paint, and fix it. I had repaired that old isonic carbon fiber slalom board numerous times over those years... Meaning, I had prior experience as a foundation for working on my new, expensive, custom board. I did not 'shy' away from the challenge or ignore that it needed work, nor opt to let 'experts' do it for me. I took action with confidence. That yielded a great amount of satisfaction.

SCENE CHANGES

When I discovered dripping water from a frozen freshwater tank drain petcock...

Even though the wind is blowing like crazy, I just got underneath the Airstream and started openning up the underbelly - tearing it open.

Previous experience finding and fixing things builds confidence, and confidence builds experience. I'm no longer intimidated to fail. I've failed so often that I know making incremental progress is the way to achievement.

SCENE CHANGES

(Showing Angelina) This is the petcock at the bottom of the fresh water tank. You turn it to drain the tank for winterizing so that it doesn't freeze. Apparently this is the low part of the whole system. Water stays in the petcock when it sits - as in oklahoma city in sub-freezing temperatures. These regularly break on Airstreams all around the country. This is a well known vulnerability.

Fortunately the part is only $3.99.

Angelina: we're working on our deductible, right?

Daniel: we have a hundred dollar deductible on our $8000 extended warranty. This $3.99 piece doesn't count.

Angelina: "what?"

Daniel: "it's only under warranty when a factory authorized person replaces the part. Due to covid, they don't have enough people. There is a waiting time for when you can get your Airstream into the shop. If you're traveling across the country, you're not gonna go out in the desert with your fresh water tank dripping. No you're gonna fix it yourself. That's the thing to do.

SCENE CHANGES

By crawling underneath the Airstream this morning, and very inconveniently removing the inspection plate to find the holiday candy... [Parts falling out from the inspection plate] I showed the zip-lock bag to the Airstream shop foreman and he responded "yeah we've seen stuff fall out, nothing like yours. You got the whole kitty full of stuff".

SCENE CHANGES

This stuff is simply construction debris. You know: artifacts, pieces, leftovers, grommets, rings.. Remember a month ago I had to crawl in the cabinetry to fix the plumbing right? You remember that inspection hole in the floor inside the cabinet? This stuff was construction debris laying on the floor. Somebody just swept it into that hole on the floor rather than putting it in a dust pan. Get it? They thought no one would ever see their short-cut. Covid hastles. Emotions and short tempers on the assembly line.

The 'booty' got swept into the hole and ended up at the bottom of the Airstream all around the inspection plate where I would find it.

SCENE CHANGES

I'm hoping that you'll grasp that confidence comes through failure. You have to be able to be fumbling things and shooting a crazy number of video takes to get something usable...

SCENE CHANGES

This stupid sprayer doesn't work either... Oh holy crap. Okay - work with it. It produces muscle memory.

SCENE CHANGES

It seems to me that we celebrate the most when we've escaped calamity or hot air. We love coming up to the cool air of flagstaff, especially after 10 days in the heat of lake pleasant. It's such a relief. I don't think I can recall Angelina taking a nap - well - never in the Airstream, but for our last decade. That's pretty cool.

SCENE CHANGES

I'm learning that in order to be satisfied, and content, you have to look at the half-full portion of the cup - not the half empty side. You can find bird doo doo all the time. Apparently it'll be there regardless if you wash your truck right then.

SCENE CHANGES

Once in a while, you'll find out something about yourself that you dismiss as 'normal'. You'd be missing an opportunity to celebrate if you do that. Your strengths might be your 'normal', but they are exceptional to everyone else.

What I really appreciate about my brain, and this hopefully is an example for you to find something about yours, is that my highly functional asperger thinking in three-dimensional is useful, rather than a pain in the boohooey for others. I can pull the Airstream into a place, quickly look around and decide that specific wheel footprint is going to be the right view, the right amount of sounds, the right plumb/level.

All of those aspects, and more, fly through my mind in pictures - it just happens. I'm really grateful for that. It works well when I need it. It's a real pain in the ass when you find bird doo doo (looking at a fresh white squeeze)

SCENE CHANGES

Angelina: Daniel's making a hot breakfast at the south rim of the grand canyon. How cold is it in here"?

Daniel: oh it's up to about 53

Angelina: okay what temperature was it that we slept at last night?

Daniel: the upper 40s. Here's the cup half-full point of view. It got colder in here than the inside of the fridge [laughter]

SCENE CHANGES

I grew up in an era and a household that was pretty black and white. That meant rigid rules with tough consequences. I learned to look ahead and build a defense long before events rolled out. I've been undoing that coping mechanism through this journey of self-awareness, and up my personal everest.

Seeing the events unfold evacuating afghanistan, and having the experience of my navy service during the vietnam conflict, I can both appreciate the freedoms that we earned, and the cost. The insider story is to be seen if the returning veterans of afganistan are treated with contempt and social shameing as we vietnam era vets were.

It's an amazing thing to be able to travel this country, self-sufficient, with decent independence, and the awareness of that privilege, knowing that we're capable of achieving things like this Airstream. It's an amazing combination and I'm very grateful for it.

SCENE CHANGES

A sidebar on the topic of appreciation is my realization the b-roll I've taken fits pretty darn well with the storyline. I don't know whether that's the result of decades of experience, a gifting, or the invisible world assisting or synchronizing with me. I I don't know. I can't explain that. However, I really want to encourage you to record your journey because I think this 'dance' can be reproduced. I really do. I want that for you.

When we got to the front gate of the grand canyon park the ranger told us that our pass had expired, but he was solutions minded. We're grateful for that because it turns out that this is an extended veterans visit free week. So there you go. I'm grateful that I live in such a fabulous country.

SCENE CHANGES

I've been inviting you on an expedition - you know - a journey with a purpose. I've been inviting you up your personal everest of awareness and yet forgetting to tell you part of the experience. I'm aware of my shortfall at this time because I'm very grateful - not just content. I'm grateful that we can find places to boondock that are silent, with the perfect temperature, and a bright breeze.

This video footage is called b-roll. It's when you want to tell a part of the story, or do narration without showing your face.

As I'm creating the episodes for the chapters of book two, I'm recording them on a couple of levels. I'm recording for your entertainment and education, and I'm recording for training of my avatar. That way my kids and grandkids and great-grandkids have an idea of what it meant to live in an era when we had such freedoms, and choices were not made for us by machine learning.

My point being: I want you to fully take up your personal everest, and I want you to be aware that you're going to experience periods of waiting between episodes. That's because we're only partly aware of what is going on around and within us, and because we're synchronizing with the invisible world, or god, or just coincidence. That's a lot to process and comprehend. Hang in there. It's worth it. Do not quit

SCENE CHANGES

(zoom into small tree growing out of a crack in a rock, high above a lakebed)

Plants are a good example. They can be a good model for some of us. Take perseverence to heart. Expect that when you focus on something, you're going to find many distractions and demands for your attention. When you put your episode 'to bed', when you finish each chapter by uploading it, when you share the story you will find relief, a sense of progress, and satisfaction. I hope that'll help you. Oh god, here comes a sneeze (ahooo) another one (ahooo)

SCENE CHANGES

Another name for self-care is maintenance. In order to do a good job of maintaining stuff you have to slow down and look closely. You've got to stop the busyness... (Big gust of wind) in order to observe. Awareness requires the time to look at things. Awareness includes paying attention to the subtleties.

(Zoom into Airstream tire) I noticed that tire wear on the rear passenger of the twin axles was unusual, excessive. I decided i'd pay attention to it. As I saw it increase, I was like... Hmm... I should look into this wear, so I crawled under the Airstream with a flashlight. To my horror I found that the retaining nuts on the upper shock absorber mounting point were missing. I've towed the Airstream 8700 miles so far. I have no idea how long the shocks on the passenger side have been 'floating'. That would obviously explain the wear.

SCENE CHANGES

Remember the episode of the couple towing their fifth-wheel trailer across the Malad Bridge? We could have had a similar disaster. I called Airstream and their reply was to 'ground us' as the trailer could roll over while we were towing it. We also called the Airstream emergency service. They couldn't help. They couldn't find anyone becasue there's a labor shortage.

I am confident in my ability to find and resolve issues. I went to a harware store and matched the flange nuts - for all of a dollar. I added a little blue loctite... Ta-da. Fixed.

SCENE CHANGES

Then I had to deal with the worn tire replacement. It turns out there's a rubber shortage from india, and goodyear can not make those tires so I can't get a replacement for several more months.

Angelina and I play hoppers to practice strategy. I simply took a side move to go forward. I exchanged the steel rim with a matching tire onto the alloy rim and put the greatly used tire onto the steel rim, and back underneath as a spare. Now we're back in service, and we can finish driving a few hundred miles to where an Airstream dealer may fit us into their queue to look at the alignment.

When you produce your episodes you'll have key points that you want to make and you'll find as you've heard me say; "when the student is ready the teacher will appear". Don't be surprised, shocked, or put off, as you see I did in early episodes. Be celebratory. Realize that it's kind of special to have events align with your journey and topic. Recognize the obsticle as the way to change your thinking about them.

The lesson in this challenge and opportunity is the value of paying attention to subtleties, asking questions before there's consequences, figuring out a strategy for maintenance, and resolving issues by taking action before there's casualties, consequences, damages outcomes. They say: a stitch in time saves nine". In this case a couple of twists of the right nuts for all of a buck.

I'm wanting you to have the insight - the scotoma revealed - that taking care of your physical body is similar. You need to pay attention to inflammation, and gas, and discomfort, and subtle changes. Eventually they lead to pain and critical failures and catastrophic events. We don't want that for you. We want for you a life of confidence and celebration.

And so, SELF-CARE, we're going to take up in the next episode in full.

I thank you for joining me on this episode of leaving Scotomaville.
